Photo of a young man with a toothy smile facing us and seated to the left of the keyboard of a grand piano. He is wearing dark glasses, a dark, open suit jacket, matching pants and a white shirt with a banded collar, which is buttoned at his neck. His left arm leans on top of the piano’s music rack, his right arm rests across his lap, his hand on his left leg. The lid of the piano is propped open. Yamaha is written on the side of the piano beneath a logo of three crossed tuning forks inside a circle. Verbal description provided by audio describer, Jen Anker.

The label reads: Kicking off the No Limits Arts Series is a performance by The Matthew Whitaker Quartet. Born in 2001 in Hackensack, NJ, Matthew Whitaker grew up surrounded by music. His love for playing music first began at the young age of 3, after his grandfather gave him a small Yamaha keyboard. At age 9, Matthew began teaching himself how to play the Hammond B3 organ. Four years later, he became the youngest artist to be endorsed by Hammond in its 80+ year history. He was also named a Yamaha Artist at age 15, becoming the youngest musician to join this stellar group of jazz pianists.

The annual concert at ISBVI kicks off the No Limits Arts Series each year on the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act being signed into law - July 26th. These performances draw the public onto the school premises and celebrate key legislation that changed the quality of life for people with disabilities.

Thank you to Realize, Inc. for the 3D printed lithophane image.
