Looking over the shoulder and blurred hands of a person seated on the right facing left, there is a Braille writer in sharp focus situated on the wood table in front of them. The subject’s hands are caught in motion, positioned above the keys of the Braille writer as if they are the hands of a pianist lifting their fingers from the keys before charging on to the rest of the concerto. Verbal description provided by audio describer, Jen Anker.
The label reads: The Indiana Regional Braille Challenge is hosted by the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI) every spring with up to 25 children in grades 1-12 competing in this first stage of a two-stage national contest. During the Braille Challenge, challengers receive braille tests focused on reading, writing, spelling and comprehension throughout half of a day. This photograph features a challenge participant using a Perkins Brailler during the annual Braille competition. IBCF fully invests in this regional program each year.
