To kick off the 2024 fall semester at Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI), the Indiana Blind Children’s Foundation (IBCF) supplied every teacher at the school with a $100 gift card to help fund the supplies they need to make this year a great one.

An elementary school teacher at ISBVI, Tara Mueller says she put the Target gift card to good use.The image shows a table with various items on it. On the left side, there are several clear plastic storage bins stacked on top of each other. In the middle of the table, there is a blue and gray electronic device with a green button, possibly a toy or learning tool. Next to it, there are colorful items, including a set of rainbow-colored markers or pens, a pink spiky ball, and some small containers. On the right side of the table, there are several packs of Crayola markers and some small pizza-shaped pouches. There is also a plastic container with several bottles of Elmer's glue inside, labeled "Glue."

“I used the Target gift card for supplies for hands-on science experiments, including toy cars, modeling clay, and other materials,” Mueller says. “I also used it for storage containers for the classroom and materials for teaching fractions.”

With all the stresses that come with starting off the school year, Mueller says she was grateful to have the extra funds to help with purchasing necessary supplies.

“The gift card was extremely helpful because it meant that I did not have to put as much of my own money into my classroom this school year, and I could create hands-on learning experiences,” she says.

Like Tara, ISBVI elementary school teacher Tonya Coburn used her Target gift card to purchase storage bins for her classroom, along with sensory and tactile learning resources. When asked what it meant to receive this gift card from IBCF, Coburn says she was very grateful.

“There are many times teachers don’t get financial help,” Coburn says. “It almost brought me to tears because of the generosity. During our move to the temporary building and the beginning-of-school stress, the gift cards were a tremendous help.”

As a reminder, IBCF has been chosen to participate in a special charitable giving campaign, sponsored and funded by Target. And you have the chance to help direct a portion of Target’s donation to us!

Now through Sept. 30, vote for us through the Target Circle program to help determine how Target’s donation will be divvied up. Find out more about Target Circle here.

We’re asking our supporters to help us make the most of this incredible opportunity. Every vote counts to help us receive a portion of the available Target funds as we continue our mission to empower Indiana youth who are blind or have low vision.

Don’t forget, as you earn more votes, you can keep voting multiple times during the campaign!

Thank you for your support, and we encourage you to share your support for us (and your thanks to Target) on social media throughout the duration of the voting.
