The Indiana Blind Children's Foundation (IBCF) invests in children with visual impairments so each child will thrive in school and daily life. IBCF is a philanthropic foundation that raises financial support and awareness for the Indiana School for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ISBVI). The School is one of the largest Schools for the Blind in the United States, based on students enrolled and served. ISBVI serves approximately 450 Indiana students from infancy through age twenty-two who are blind or have low vision from around the state, many of which have an additional disability. Students attending ISBVI receive the same instruction and course work required of all school-aged children in Indiana with an emphasis on the Core curriculum which includes: compensatory or functional academic skills, communication modes, orientation and mobility, social interaction skills, independent living skills, recreation and leisure skills, career education, use of assistive technology, sensory efficiency skills and self-determination.
IBCF supports the development of students impacted by ISBVI by driving financial support and awareness of specific ISBVI programs that fall under five IBCF investment areas: access technology, arts and music, career development, family engagement, and health and wellness. The photographs included in this exhibit feature numerous ISBVI programs and students participating in these programs that the Foundation annually supports. Realize Inc. has provided 3D lithophane prints of each of the photographs. These prints are back-lit to provide a different type of artistic experience. Additionally, these 3D images are also meant to be touched while listening to a verbal description intended to provide a viewer who is blind a comprehensive understanding of the artwork. A verbal description of each photograph can be accessed by scanning the adjacent QR Code next to each photograph using a QR Code Reader App and VoiceOver or the BlindSquare App. This exhibit is an extension of the No Limits accessible programming.
No Limits Arts Series:
IBCF in partnership with ISBVI received three years of financial support through the Strengthening Indianapolis Through Arts and Cultural Innovation grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. to create, implement and sustain the No Limits Arts Series. This arts partnership, spearheaded by IBCF, currently brings together the No Limits Leadership Club together with the following nonprofit arts partners: The Eiteljorg Museum, Heartland Film, Capital City Chorus, ArtMix, The Phoenix Theatre, and Dance Kaleidoscope.
The No Limits Arts Series is a celebration of all the accessible arts partnerships each year. Reflecting upon inclusiveness at ISBVI, the school auditorium underwent a major transformation upgrading all the audio and lighting technology as well as integrating video capabilities and wheelchair seating for the first time. The auditorium now serves as a learning laboratory for artistic classes and endeavors with students as well as a public space for films and performances making the campus more of a community gathering space.
